Course Overview and Description

The Light Duty Auto Mechanic Program is designed to provide graduates with a comprehensive, practical, hands-on training for students who wish to meet the ever increasing needs of today’s automotive industry.  Intense instruction is provided in automotive technology from: Shop Safety Procedures: Safety in workplace and coworkers as well as means of protecting yourself while working around vehicles. Proper steps to test, repair, replace and adjust parts around an automobile, such as: tune-up, brakes, charging system, starter system, electrical systems, fuel injection including injectors, gauges, fuel flow to an engine, advanced automotive OBD II, waveforms sensors, data and computerized components.  Computer Diagnostic: Using the scanners, learning how to diagnose an engine using a scanner, reading of vehicle error codes, proper elimination of engine codes and check engine light., lab-scope, and other diagnostic equipment to properly troubleshoot and solve engine/vehicle’s problems.   An assessment/test is given to the student after the completion of each module. The Student must get a grade of 71-80 (C) or better to pass the module.  Students will be prepared to gain entry-level employment in dealerships, service stations and/or work independently.
